The Project
After a client found her on Instagram, Lauren Lerner, CEO and principal designer of Living with Lolo (livingwithlolo.com), began to plan a full-on remodel for the client’s current home. “The homeowners wanted a more contemporary feel in their home, which included a full kitchen, living and bathroom remodel, and new furnishings throughout the home,” she says. “Our client had some specific ideas and looks that she wanted to incorporate, but we still had a lot of creative freedom on this project.” To Lerner’s delight, she did not have to incorporate any of the client’s own items. “We were able to start completely from scratch,” she says. “Our team thrives when given a blank canvas to design.”

The Plan
After meeting with the client to discuss the project, Lerner and her team came up with a plan of attack. “The biggest structural changes that we made were adding in a 20-foot slider for seamless indoor and outdoor living, as well as reconfiguring the fireplace wall,” she shares. “The original kitchen was a dark, uninviting space, which was completely transformed into a welcoming gathering spot. As for the desired color palette, the client wanted something more neutral and serene but was open to a few bold pops of color.”
The Inspiration
“This home has a breathtaking backdrop of the Scottsdale mountains, so we strived to keep the colors inside complementary to the desert palette outside,” says Lerner. “We incorporated neutrals and warm terra cottas throughout to ensure the living spaces were cohesive. It was key that the interior complemented the breathtaking exterior of the home, with comfort and uniqueness driving the overall vibe.”

The Highlights
Lerner calls out the living room—where she incorporated rift-cut white oak cabinets and a custom cement fluted fireplace—as one of her favorite spaces. To fit the scale of the room, two custom sofas were used—one leather and one in a white performance, linen-like fabric. “The living space is so comfortable, and I love that the open floor plan allows for easy visibility of both the kitchen and dining spaces,” she adds. “To draw the eye upward, we hung a beautiful brass chandelier, which is a metal found in various accents throughout the home.” Lerner also loves the dining room. “The warm terra-cotta color used on the beautiful handmade wallpaper makes for such a striking accent wall. It’s truly a piece of art in itself!”

The Outcome
While most projects come with inevitable challenges, this one was smooth from start to finish. “Our preparation for this project made sure that we tackled all design decisions before the start of the project, and, thankfully, we didn’t encounter any surprises along the way,” Lerner shares. Best of all, the homeowners love it. “It’s a chic home without being too pretentious to live in.”
