We asked the mother-and-daughter design duo of Interior Design by S&S to be our eyes and ears for this year’s High Point Spring Market in North Carolina. Here’s what stood out.

S&S PHOTO BY LEW FALCHER

In June, High Point Market’s previously postponed spring edition revealed a revamped program featuring the best of the best in the design world. In attendance was the team behind Interior Design by S&S (interiordesignbysns.com), mother Sharon Falcher and daughter Sherica Maynard. The pair joined each other five years ago in Conyers, Ga., using their deep respect for each other and respective talents to became a design power team. Falcher immigrated from Trinidad to Toronto, eventually settling in Georgia, and after starting in window treatments, she officially became her own boss in 2013. Maynard, the oldest of four girls, joined her mother after 10 years of professional modeling in New York, where she simultaneously earned her BFA in architectural design at Parsons School of Design. These two women bring power, talent and perspective to their spaces, and most of all, they put their clients’ needs at the forefront of everything—creating livable luxury spaces. While at High Point, these standout trends caught their eye.

PORCELAIN TOP

“We have noticed that a lot of brands are switching from natural stone tabletops to porcelain ‘marble look’ finish tops. It’s a less expensive alternative to natural stone and very durable. These tops are resistant to stains, heat and water.”

INTEGRATING TABLES INTO SECTIONALS

“The way we use our home now is different with home-schooling and working from home. We have to design rooms to have multiple functions. Sectional seating has become more modular these days, allowingfor them to be easily separated and able to move into different configurations. A clever thing that we saw this market was the integration of tables into these modular pieces. This is great for form and function.”

FROSTED MIRRORS

“Frosted mirror is showing up more and more, and it gives furniture such a modern, sleek look. It has a frosted mattelike finish and subtle reflection properties. These frosted mirrors also come in an array of colors.”

CHAIR-BACK BELT DETAILING

“We love to see fashion elements like exposed zippers, straps and statement buttons integrated into furniture. During High Point we saw several vendors that had a leather strap with a buckle detail at the back of the chair. We absolutely loved this trend; this is great for dining chairs or floating accent chairs.”
