Nestled in a sought-after Milton neighborhood, a classic home with beautiful bones awaited its transformation. The new owners, relocating from Buckhead with their young children, envisioned a warm, inviting space that would become the heart of their family life and social gatherings. Enter Stevie Interiors, tasked with breathing new life into the 6,000-square-foot residence while honoring its timeless architecture.

THE PRIORITY

“Our clients moved into a home with great potential, but the overall vibe was disconnected from their desires,” explains Meghan Basinger, creative director and principal designer at Stevie Interiors. “The previous decor, with its stark white walls and cool modern touches, conflicted with our client’s vision of warmth and depth. Our mission was to completely reimagine the interiors with minimal structural changes, showcasing the power of thoughtful design elements.”

THE STRATEGY

The clients provided a singular guiding principle: layers. “They wanted to experience warmth through layered elements—from rugs to furniture to decorative accents,” Basinger recalls. “We moved away from traditional Southern design, gravitating toward an organic, relaxed aesthetic that felt both timeless and fresh.”

While many would consider the home move-in ready, the Stevie Interiors team saw an opportunity for a comprehensive makeover. “It was a designer’s dream—a clean slate to work with,” Basinger notes. “We needed to furnish every corner of this spacious home while ensuring it remained kid and pet-friendly.”

THE DESIGN

The transformation began with lighting, replacing every fixture to set the tone for each space. “Lighting became the foundation of our design narrative,” Basinger emphasizes. The team then focused on curating well-crafted, custom pieces built to withstand family life. Textures were thoughtfully layered within an earthy color palette, creating depth and interest.

Warm tones of brown and green dominate throughout the home. The team transformed existing white shiplap and light wood tones with darker stains, creating moodier, more intimate spaces. The dining room, visible from the entrance, is a showstopping focal point.

While the interior underwent a dramatic shift, the home’s existing outdoor spaces were already a highlight. Stevie Interiors enhanced these areas with carefully selected furnishings, from the inviting front porch to the private primary suite balcony and the resortlike backyard.

THE OUTCOME

Affectionately dubbed the “House of Layers,” the completed project exudes warmth and hospitality. “It feels like a hug in so many ways,” Basinger says. “The space effortlessly transitions from hosting elegant dinner parties to accommodating lively preschool playdates.”

The project’s success stems from the clients’ openness to embrace a new aesthetic. “They wanted to work with someone local but were inspired by design trends from Nashville and the West Coast,” Basinger explains. This willingness to explore beyond traditional Southern interiors allowed a unique and personalized result.
