“We helped save this historic Tudor home from being torn down and turned it into a charming cottage for a young family of 4 (about to be 5!),” shares interior designer Sharon Eddings of moniker firm Sharon Eddings Design. The burgeoning family enlisted the design darling to help restore a Tudor-style home in the heart of Highland Park. “The renovation preserved many original features, including antique windows and architectural elements, while adding new spaces like an extra bedroom, bathroom, laundry room and a walk-in closet. The design heavily incorporated family heirlooms, custom drapery, vintage lighting, and antiques to honor the home’s history.” Sourcing many swoonworthy finds from Roundtop; the design team went over the top to complete the desired aesthetic, including the fact they did not hold back as it pertained to color. “Our clients love color and really appreciate a color-saturated space with walls and trim shining,” shares Eddings. “Sometimes paint is the simplest way to achieve drama.” The family also saved many original details and reworked more recent incongruous remodels to a layout that was up to the home’s age, saving for a few modern amenities. Playful patterns and punchy prints were utilized to compliment the house’s feel. “Two greens from Farrow & Ball used throughout complement each other but are different enough to create tension,” shares Eddings regarding the intention behind the colorway. “The wallpapers pull from the same shared color palette. Almost all of the furniture is antique to honor the age of the house and create a layered, storied feeling. Almost all the lighting is vintage, making for a unique space.
