After falling in love with one of interior design firm PS & Daughters' projects, there was no one else this husband-and-wife pair wanted to design their new Bronxville home.

THE PROJECT

When a New York City couple attended a party in Bronxville, they adored the space and inquired about who the designer was before heading home.

The answer was design firm PS & Daughters, and from that point, the couple knew exactly who they wanted to design their new Bronxville home. “This was certainly an example of our favorite kind of referral,” says Phoebe Schuh, PS & Daughters founder and principal designer. “We were very excited and honored to get that phone call.”

THE CLIENT

The husband and wife are both financial professionals and decided it was time for their family to move from their city apartment to a more spacious abode. “As important as the aesthetic themes are, we also spend a lot of time understanding how our clients want to live in their space,” Schuh says. “It can sound trite, but it’s so important to know what makes them happy day-to-day, how they like to entertain, what will feel fresh and timeless to them months and years later.”

THE PRIORITY

PS & Daughters’ creative process always begins with discovery. “Our goal is never to put our stamp on a design,” Schuh says. “Our goal is to elicit our clients’ stamp, help them define it and then bring it to life through the design process. After we have spent a lot of time interviewing clients and poring through inspiration images with them, we begin to establish design themes that will carry the process forward.” The goal was to create a space that exudes a relaxed elegance—at once sophisticated and approachable, beautiful and comfortable—and infused with a dash of whimsy.

THE DESIGN

“In a very organic way, dusty green became one of our foundational colors,” Schuh says. “We developed a complementary palette, in varying saturations, from that starting point.” The family room is appointed with chic, pale blue drapes from Pottery Barn and a cozy Room & Board sofa lounge, and is accented with a striking artwork from One Kings Lane. In the kitchen, Serena & Lily counter stools complement a gorgeous CB2 marble table.

THE SURPRISES

“Every time we work with a client who is moving out of the city into a home with considerably more space (and more rooms to furnish), there is a fun challenge of working through so many decisions with a client,” Schuh shares. “They are always surprised at how much work it is to fill their new home in a meaningful way, but of course our job is to make that work meaningful and fun.”
