Crafting iconic luxury performance textiles—including showstopping solution-dyed acrylic fabrics alongside handwoven rugs, pillows and trims—since 1997, Dallas-based Perennials Fabrics and Rugs (perennialsfabrics.com) has been a long-standing pillar in the design community. In celebration of the brand’s impressive 25th anniversary, we sat down with Perennials founders David and Ann Sutherland to get the inside scoop.

What sets Perennials apart from other fabric companies? DS: Perennials was the first to realize that the fibers and yarns needn’t be treated so rudely, and when left in its natural state, solution-dyed acrylics approached the hand of cottons and silks and other elegant natural materials. Once Perennials released the beauty in the material, its obvious properties created an entirely new market.

How can homeowners use fabric to create a sanctuary for guests and themselves? AS: Design a room around the idea of livable luxury. Of course, we want a room to be aesthetically serene and sophisticated, but if a client can’t live fearlessly within the space, what’s the point?

Any trends you’re forecasting for fall? AS: Subtle patterns in neutral colors create a serene foundation for any room. Our Cloud 9 collection is filled with lush textures and geometric patterns that provide dimension but avoid overwhelming a design.

What does this anniversary mean to you? AS: I am very proud to be celebrating 25 years in the industry. Over the years, we evolved from a small outdoor fabric company to a luxury performance fabric and rug powerhouse, employing hundreds of representatives and artisans across the globe. We’re incredibly blessed to work with talented and passionate people, from our in-house product development teams to the designers that work their magic with our products. Perennials’ future is unlimited, and we are excited to lead the company for years to come!
