“It’s one thing to pass by and admire these stunning homes from the outside,” shares AIA Houston executive director Rusty Bienvenue. “But an entirely heightened experience to step inside and be captivated by the remarkable thought and talent that went into each design.” The storied home tour runs from October 21 and October 22. During this time, interiors enthusiasts and creatives alike can quench their curiosity by touring eight of the city’s most magnificent homes. One such property is this beauty from StudioMET—which marks the fifteenth consecutive year the Houston-based firm has featured one of its homes. The design firm worked with a bustling family to create the home of their dreams. This custom home has an open-plan layout optimal for entertaining—something that was top of mind for the family. The firm helped to weave a sense of nature throughout the 6,813 square-foot space. “It is important for a modern house to have a strong connection between the indoor and outdoor,” notes the firm’s principal, Shawn Gottschalk. “We used large-scale sliding doors that can stay open leading to the backyard.” Another key feature is the vegetable garden on the side of the home that the family takes part in— something Gottschalk mentions is a trend we are seeing lately as people spend more time at home. Other key features throughout the space include a built-in fish tank and what Gottschalk says is one of his favorite spots, a reading nook in the middle of the household. “We’ve been fortunate enough to have a home as a part of the tour throughout the years,” notes Gottschalk. “On a year-to-year basis, it’s a huge opportunity for people to see our work in person.” Catch a glimpse of this treasure of a home, and perhaps you, too, will feel a sense of inspiration.
