THE PRIORITY

Interior designer Nicole Fisher, CEO and founder of BNR Interiors, was tapped to create a vacationlike space in Bridgehampton for a family of Westchester County residents. “The overall aesthetic of the house was young, fun and indestructible,” Fisher says. “For a family that loves to entertain, nothing could be too precious or delicate.” With three teenage sons in the family and visitors frequently stopping by, Fisher had to find a balance between durable and beautiful.

THE PROCESS

Fisher was able to make creative decisions that wouldn’t have been possible if the project was a simple redecoration. “Since we had a fresh slate to start with, it was an entirely creative process that could be tailor-made for the clients,” Fisher adds. The build included five bedrooms and 6 ½ bathrooms along with multiple entertaining spaces like the casual dining room and bright, two-tone kitchen. Fisher went with a cohesive beach theme and found ways to make each room distinct by using separate tiles and backsplashes in each bathroom and interesting paints and textures for various walls, like the sandy woven accent wall in the main bedroom.

THE CHALLENGE

In just over a yearlong project, one difficulty Fisher ran into was combining functionality with beauty. “Creating a modern, kid-friendly oasis was challenging at times,” Fisher says. The town also provided some obstacles with unforeseen restrictions. “The Hamptons have very strict lighting rules with how the outside of the house is lit,” Fisher says. “That was a new one for me!”

THE OUTSIDE

The exterior of the residence was uniquely designed with a black trim and cedar wood covering the facade, just behind an enormous front yard. Around the back is an entertaining oasis, the crown jewel being the gorgeous pool and spa. An outdoor dining area large enough for the family and guests is covered by a pergola, strewn with fairy tale-esque lighting. Four blue umbrellas bring a pop of color to the space, and an intimate fire pit lights up the corner of the pool deck. A covered outdoor kitchen and patio with a minifridge, grill and Sunset West rope furniture allows the family to host outside.

THE DETAILS

Inside, Fisher’s design centered around the feel of nature. “The main source of inspiration was the ocean,” she says. “Since it’s a beach house for this family, blues, greens, natural textures and layers of lightweight, breathable fabrics was the direction.” Throughout the abode, bright colors keep it light and airy with stately, beachy furniture grounding the rooms. Plenty of wicker and light woods can be found throughout, and blue accents are used in places like the kitchen island, bathroom backsplashes, rugs and pillows. Open spaces in the entertaining areas make the house perfect for the family to host gatherings.
