THE PROJECT

Nestled within a lush residential neighborhood in Miami and tucked away on a family compound, an elegant modern home offers serenity and balance for a young, tech-savvy international couple with young children. Th e new construction build provides a 10,542-square-foot abode where the family can live harmoniously. “Our approach to design often channels the lifestyle of places such as Rio, São Paolo and Angra dos Reis in Brazil, subtly blending indoors and outdoors in an elegant contemporary way,” said Carola Pimentel of Assure Interiors (assureinteriors.com), who worked in collaboration with CMA Design Studio (cma. design) and CDC Builders (cdcbuilders.com) to deliver a comfortable, stylish house for her clients that marries form with function. “Everyone has their own space, the layered tactile materials suit the Miami climate, and the crisply decorated rooms are infused with lots of natural light.”

THE DESIGN

Considering the clients’ tech backgrounds, Pimentel and the team sought to make the home a smart house without sacrificing the aesthetic, weaving soft materials, tonal shades and rich jewel tones into the design. “As a response to the Miami climate, the clients’ tastes and the project’s location, we introduced an earthy palette with neutral hues, layering texture and interest via tactile materials such as linen, boucle velvet and accent colors in greens and blues,” Pimentel said. “These elements were conceived as part of a laidback and refined decorating scheme suitable for tropical living.”

Creating a space specifically tailored to the wife’s accomplished culinary needs, Pimentel and the Assure team designed a large multifunctional open kitchen ideal for entertaining. Complete with custom cabinetry in subtle green hues and integrating an elegant quartz-topped island with a Japanese table as a secondary dining area for the growing family, the kitchen and family room exude warmth through the tall glass windows, bringing in the Miami sun while showcasing the garden and terrace. In the dining room, Malachite green suede on the walls and ceiling, and a striped green mohair rug introduce more dramatic pigments. “We conceived modern interiors with warm elements that come together in a fresh and welcoming way,” Pimentel said.

THE FINDS

Pimentel worked with existing pieces while sourcing unique objects from Latin America and Europe. Take, for example, the Colombian rug in the entrance hall crafted of copper and plantain fibers or the contemporary credenza with a collection of vessels and a photo-realistic painting that adds drama to the space. Each room brings a clear layout with distinctive interior architectural detailing while seamlessly staying modern and stylized. One of the many standout features of the contemporary sanctuary is the glass wine cellar that separates the dining room from the living room. Originally conceived as an open space, the wine wall was built at the client’s request and holds 200 bottles in a temperature-controlled environment. Additional bespoke accessories and furnishings in the living room include the curved blue velvet sofa, which softens the space and is positioned to enjoy views of the terrace and the lush tropical garden, and Italian boucle cushions that complement the textural velvet, linen and leather furniture. At the same time, the antique brass elements catch glimmers of sunlight.

In stark contrast to the open and light living room, the intimate dining room lies on the opposite side of the wine wall. With deep green moldings and walls, the elegant dining area features Poltrona Frau Ginger swivel armchairs and brass floor lamps that stand out against the dark palette. Connecting both floors lies the heart of the house: a floating walnut staircase with a Starphire glass railing featuring a collection of sculptures.

THE OUTCOME

Complementing the outdoor environment with impeccable design inside and out, Pimentel and the team created a modern enclave featuring durable materials, such as rich wood, cool stones and warm leathers that pull from nature and will withstand use by the growing family. Paint selections, wallpaper patterns and fabric textures deliver a modern yet elegant home where each family member can experience peak comfort while having their own space—a place where the clients can gather, work from home as needed, and keep up with the lives of their young children. The Assure team considered every detail, resulting in warm elements and a fresh, light-filled space that came together in a most thoughtful way.
