When dreaming up their perfect city pied-àterre, a New Hampshire family envisioned all things Japandi. Enter Desiree Burns of Desiree Burns Interiors (dburnsinteriors.com), who recently returned from her trip to Japan, captivated by contemporary and functional interiors. Together, the clients and Burns created the perfect minimal-organic style using neutral shades. “The style was intuitively familiar to our signature look (contemporary-organic), but at the same time, it was unfamiliar territory being inspired by Japanese design, which made it exciting to work on,” Burns shares. Here, the designer offers a closer look at the home’s most exquisite details.

“We designed a custom floating white oak media console and slatted feature wall. New England Custom Cabinetry (necustomcabinetry.com) executed the build of this custom design. We added wabi sabi sconces on either side and an integrated, hidden custom-LED strip along the crown for ambient lighting.”

“Part of the primary bedroom, this vignette is subtle yet captivating. We added Japandi-inspired greenery and accessories. The white plastered artwork added interest in texture without incorporating color to keep an all-neutral color palette.”

“The cloud pendants heavily reflected our Japandi-style theme. We added custom art prints (artexplore.net) in a neutral color palette inspired by organic stone shapes. The white oak dining table (lekkerhome.com) and chairs add an earthy, grounded feel.”

“We added a chaise along the window for a reading nook with a view. The clients knew they wanted a lowprofile, modern bed frame (roveconcepts.com). They wanted a calming and serene feel for this space.”
