Celebrating her 25th anniversary in the biz, lauded lady Jan Showers (janshowers.com) is soaring to new heights.
Constantly on top of the game, Showers is pushing the page to create new environments for her clients to enjoy.
When did you truly fall in love with the world of interiors? I was interested in design because of my mother—I made an ‘interiors magazine’ when I was 8 that my mother saved. I loved looking at all of her shelter magazines, so I cut out all the images I liked and made them into a magazine called ‘Rooms.’ That’s why my first book is called Glamorous Rooms. My mother and her mother loved antiques, and I went with them and became interested in them being a part of any room.
What is your favorite part of the job? There is so much I love! I’m particularly happy when I’m working with my team, buying antiques that are unusual in Paris and other places wherever I find them. But my favorite part of what I do is pleasing the clients we work with—it’s a great thrill to get an email or call about how we have enhanced their lives and how grateful they are. I simply love developing a concept for each house we design.
Cheers to the 25-year milestone! What are you most looking forward to moving ahead? I’m just thrilled to still be as excited as I was in the beginning—interior design is always a challenge and one I’m thrilled to have. I love having so many designers who love to come in and see what we have.
What does the future hold? Next year we are thrilled to debut our second fabric collection for Kravet Couture in the spring. We have added gorgeous colors to our Bambu Fret and Lynx Dot series with prints inspired by the Kravet archives and beautiful velvet stripes in a great mix of colors. The other big news is that we have moved all of the Jan Showers furniture collection into our showroom at 1308 Slocum St. [in Dallas]. Now clients may buy directly from us.
