J.P. Morgan wasn't a founding father, but if you're talking about the modern American financial system, he might as well be. The financier and banker led Wall Street through the Gilded Age of the late 1800s, and for $1,298,000, you can now live in the house from which he did it all.
According to Newsday, the stunning Victorian home sits in Long Island's luxurious Roslyn Heights neighborhood. Mr. Morgan had the house built for himself in 1896, complete with seven bedrooms and four bathrooms across its three-story floor plan. It looks fantastic for 124 years old, with all its original hardwood floors and two fireplaces dating back to the turn of the century. The corner property is situated on a 9,766-square-foot lot and retains much of its original charm, including its 10-foot living room ceilings, spacious library, den and two porches.

Current owner Neil Ramlagan bought the home two years ago and invested in its updates. The building boasts a new roof, new pipes and a central heating and air system. New windows have been installed throughout the home. Ramlagan even renovated the eat-in kitchen, adding a skylight alongside updated appliances and flooring.
There are thoughtful touches everywhere, and the main stairs are truly a classic look. For Ramlagan, the home's finishing is its selling point.
"It has this rich feeling," he says. "You could tell someone important built this house."
J.P. Morgan enjoyed the dwelling for several years before moving to Glen Cove and selling the property to his personal physician. Among the most recent well-known residents was Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan. The home became the actor's stateside base as he promoted his films.
For those who'd like to fill famous shoes, the property is listed by Aileen Murstein at Douglas Elliman. Check the full story in Newsday for pictures and more information.
