“Th e clients wanted to create a space that was open,” enthuses interior designer Morgan Farrow of Morgan Farrow Interiors. “Th is was their first experience with the kitchen-living combo space.” With the open-concept offerings being top of mind combined with the desire for the home to have a seamless fl ow and warm atmosphere, homeowners Mark Danuser—of Tatum Brown Custom Homes—and his wife, Christine, enlisted the expertise of Mark Hoesterey of SHM Architects to bring this creative vision to life.

Th is dream team worked together tirelessly to create the ultimate oasis. What’s the secret to this magical blend, you might ask? Th e perfect marriage of timeless sophistication with colorful surprises peppered throughout the space.

“We needed to make sure the kitchen felt high style enough to live in harmony with the living space,” shares Farrow. “So, we opted for more ‘furniturelike’ cabinets from Bulthaup to outfit the kitchen. This paired with old Chicago brick on the fireplace and accent above the built-in breakfast banquette, which really helped balance the room from feeling too sleek.” The end result? A livable space with luxurious ambiance. “That balancing act continued through the house with touches of reclaimed architectural elements mixed with new contemporary furnishings. We then had ‘jewel box’ moments sprinkled throughout the house, from the wallpaper surprise in her office, the tucked-in green bar, the kids’ rooms with punches of unexpected paint treatments to the reclaimed barn doors in the primary bedroom.

“With colorful surprises at every turn paired with the couple’s collection of artwork and treasures collected over time, this home is ultimately where the heart is.”
