Back in the 1960s, when Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack friends set Las Vegas on fire, the singer built a hideaway a few hours outside the city as a means to escape the stress of stardom. Set just above Palm Desert, California, the home dubbed Villa Maggio is now on the market for $4.25 million, according to Top Ten Real Estate Deals.
Villa Maggio’s 10-acre compound features three buildings surrounded by boulders and stunning views. The home sits on a craggy hilltop, providing a relatively cool escape from the desert heat.

Built in a rustic style with warm woods, local stone, and seven stone fireplaces, the sweeping estate manages to maintain a charming cabin vibe. It features five bedrooms, two kitchens, a dining and living room, a den, and six bathrooms. Guests, who can fly in and out with a private helipad, are welcome to enjoy first-class accommodations, including two bedrooms of their own, a bath, a living room with a cozy fireplace and a full kitchen.
The detached guest house is two stories with a small kitchen, bathroom, stone fireplace and a covered deck that overlooks the rocky landscape. The pool house has a beautiful room with a stone fireplace, two bathrooms, two saunas and a mini-kitchen with views over the pool and tennis court. Although the home has been restored over the years, it still includes much of the tile and wallpaper that Sinatra chose when he helped design it.
Villa Maggio, named after his 1954 Academy-Award-winning role as Private Angelo Maggio in From Here to Eternity, was a place for Sinatra to lay back and chill out. There, he would call up fellow Rat Packers Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, giving everyone a chance to unwind out of the public eye.
At the time, Sinatra’s moves—good, bad, or controversial—were always on display. During his stellar music career, the leader of the Rat Pack sold more than 150 million records including “Strangers in the Night,” “My Way” and “New York, New York.”
Palm Desert, home of the famous annual Coachella music festival, is a celebrity stomping ground where stars have gotten away from the Hollywood frenzy for decades. When shopping or dining out in the area, you may run into Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, The Weeknd, or Gigi and Bella Hadid.
Markus Canter and Cristie St. James of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties hold the listing. See pictures of the home below, and read more about Sinatra and his Rat Pack days via Top Ten Real Estate Deals.
