THE PROJECT

“They previously lived in this building when [the couple] were together early on, so when this fantastic property became available, it was a no-brainer for them to purchase a space with such an iconic view and sentimental feel,” says Emily Del Bello, founder of her eponymous award-winning interior design firm. The Nevada-based couple, who has two sons, was eager to transform the space into their pied-à-terre so that their adventurous young family, who enjoy traveling the world together, can frequent New York City and meet family from across the country in the home.

THE PROCESS

Because the clients are not based in New York, Del Bello and her team were the eyes and ears on the ground. “We took more detailed photos and provided more frequent updates to this client because they didn’t have the luxury to visit the apartment weekly,” she adds. Guided by unwavering trust from the clients, the project came together smoothly. The overall design of the modern home with two bedrooms and two half-bathrooms is characterized by soft lines, moody furniture and luxe minimalist decor. With expansive windows facing Central Park and New York City’s skyline, the main focus is the jaw-dropping view.

THE DETAILS

Del Bello paid close attention to texture and played with it throughout the space in order to coordinate various views. “We wanted to highlight the view as best as possible—making sure all the seasons of Central Park would look stunning as the backdrop,” she says. The designer decided to stick to a warm color palette to achieve a comfortable feel in the living space. “We kept it pretty tonal but added punch through the family room run and kitchen stone,” she adds. To create space for entertaining, the kitchen counter was made to double as a dining table, and the living area was maximized with plenty of seating.

THE OUTCOME

Once the final details came together, Del Bello’s team had created a space where family traditions intertwine with metropolitan grandeur. “I received a photo from the clients of the family watching the Thanksgiving Day parade from [their home],” she shares. “It was just so lovely to see the family enjoy the space and use it all.”
