After spending years in Washington, designer Holly Wright’s clients wanted what all the Arizona travel brochures promise: year-round outdoor entertaining possibilities, stunning sunsets and saguaro-filled scenery. The owner of Holly Wright Design says she was fully committed to delivering all that and more at this hillside home. “Serenity of spaces, in both finishes and textures [and] allowing emphasis on the Arizona landscape was one of our main goals for this client and this home,” Wright says.

Once guests pass through the front door, they are met with an outdoor deck highlighted by a negative-edge pool that reflects the desert flora and an elevated hot tub. Daybeds and comfortable lounge chairs sit in groupings atop travertine pavers, some situated under woodcovered overhangs. Just steps away is an indoor-outdoor bar and an intimate outdoor living room with a linear fire feature and television. At the very edge is a viewing deck that suggests the possibility of endless quiet, contemplative moments.

While the client’s newly constructed 5,300-square-foot home at Lone Star in Desert Mountain is undoubtedly a beautiful sight, Wright says Mother Nature’s creations are the main attraction. “The views inspired me and the team,” she shares. “We have all the furniture oriented toward the views. I kept the furnishings soft, casual and understated so that no elements competed with our focus for these spaces.”

The clients, she says, were overjoyed. “They contacted me immediately upon seeing their home and were truly grateful that our vision created this amazing end result.”
