After an extensive remodel, this Paradise Valley abode had undeniable allure. Still, once the masterminds at Berghoff Design Group augmented its landscaping, the project elevated to high art. Jeff Berghoff, the company’s president, recalls his winter visitor, empty nester clients wanted “an entertainer’s yard” to host charity events, parties and get-togethers. Still, they never imagined how much fun and flair he could pack into their 3 acres.

Berghoff planted the property with flora that primarily blooms in the cooler months.

One of Berghoff’s most significant hurdles was making the home’s hidden front door a more prominent entrance, so he created a path with giant, LED-lit slab steps, cleverly uplit cactus groupings and a large limestone water feature. He also had to consider various grade changes regarding the enormous, amenity-filled backyard he planted with flora that primarily bloomed in the cooler months. The area also had to function appropriately for soirees of all sizes. But Berghoff had a very clear vision. “You’re transfixed by this pool and what’s going on with the zero edge and negative edge, then the views,” he shares. “Then you get to this banquette or the sculptural water feature at the end, and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, there’s more! There’s a putting green! There’s a tennis court!’ And the property keeps going and going. It’s like a good book: each chapter gets better, and you constantly turn the page, and there’s something else happening.” The space also features dazzling sunset panoramas of Camelback Mountain, Mummy Mountain and downtown Phoenix.

As for the homeowners, they will undoubtedly find myriad reasons to enjoy their dynamic desert domain.
