Designed for a fun-loving family, this resort-style home offers equal parts panache and practicality.

The great room required an extra long (120-inch!) custom sofa, a 110-inch-wide fireplace and two oversize coffee tables. “While this room lacked no grandeur, we wanted it to feel as intimate as possible, so we styled with a lot of layered textiles, vintage decor and accents,” says THELIFESTYLEDCO principal designer and creative director Kristen Forgione. “Our clients dreamt of a home that felt unique, inviting and elevated; a place that always feels like you’re on vacation while still feeling homey,” explains THELIFESTYLEDCO principal designer and creative director Kristen Forgione, who worked on this project with lead designer Kylie Ray Syburg. Once she, Syburg, CW Architecture and AFT Construction completed the five-bedroom, six-and-a-half bathroom nest in Esperanza, the end result rivaled even the poshest resort.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a cozy breakfast nook that comfortably seats about 14 people. “We built in the bench seating and had a subtle flooring change with a printed tile from The Tile Shop,” shares THELIFESTYLEDCO lead designer Kylie Ray Syburg. “The Woven pendant above brings a casualness to the highly styled space.” PHOTOGRAPHED BY NICK SORENSEN

Though it boasts a putting green, basketball and bocce courts, a negative-edge pool and sunken conversation area, and an arcade, home gym and temperature-controlled wine room, there are countless other reasons Forgione labeled the nearly 8,600-square-foot new build “a true desert oasis” for the family of five who call it home.

Brad Leavitt, president of AFT Construction, says the homeowners had high hopes for what would become of their lot near Pinnacle Peak Mountain. “The family wanted a home that was purposeful but stylish, where they and their three boys could live and grow, work and play,” he explains. “They designed each area to serve a purpose.”

Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout were a nonnegotiable starting point. To harmonize with the surrounding landscape, Forgione and Syburg created a palette of earthy and durable materials and finishes, including white oak cabinetry, European oak floors and natural stone.

“There are almost as many outdoor spaces as indoor!” says Forgione, who selected a modular sofa from CB2 and a custom ottoman for this alfresco space. Sunken built-in bench seating surrounding the fire pit by the pool can be seen in the distance PHOTOGRAPHED BY NICK SORENSEN

Regarding the home’s busiest areas, they prioritized comfort and common sense. In the kitchen, for example, a waterfall-edged island hides floating swivel counter stools on one side so the boys can partake in after-sports snacking with friends. “This was actually our client’s idea,” Syburg explains. The laundry room, decked out with gorgeous handmade Tabarka Studio tiles, was designed with built-in drying racks and desk space so Mom can get work done between loads.

Once the boys finish their chores and head to their game room, Mom and Dad escape to their cozy bedroom with its giant glass doors overlooking the desert and light their fireplace surrounded in natural stone. “We warmed everything up with oversize nightstands, cloud-like accent chairs and ottomans, and custom linen drapery for softness,” Forgione explains.

The adjoining bathroom is no less sumptuous, with its generous window behind a free-standing soaker tub, full-size quartz slabs on the walls, marble mosaic floors and custom-made arched shower doors.

All in all, the home offers everything this modern family desires. “It is one of our all-time favorites,” Leavitt shares. “The home is beautiful, yet livable. So many amazing details, and the floor plan is just perfect for the family. With all of the on-site amenities, there is no need to leave. Resort living at its finest.”
