After initially designing this modernist Paradise Valley vision in Calacatta marble. home for a family friend, architect C.P. Drewett of Drewett Works was brought back to the property to reimagine it for its new owners. The clients—a vibrant couple who love bold statements, unexpected art and whimsical elements— sought a space more aligned with their modern but more tailored, refined and elegant sensibilities. “They wanted to use this beautiful modern home as a platform to infuse their particular aesthetic while keeping the pillars of the design elements intact, as it corresponds beautifully to the hillside around it,” notes Holly Wright of Holly Wright Design, who handled the interior design.

The home’s reimagined primary suite offers a unique orientation designed to highlight its breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain. Upon entering the space, the first sight is the spectacular outdoor scenery. “To avoid blocking the views in the primary suite’s sitting room, we designed a black basalt peninsula fireplace that doubles as a partition from the bathroom hall behind it,” Drewett explains, noting that the custom-designed bed resides in its own nook. “We also installed a drop-down TV in the ceiling to keep the views open.”

The bathroom, a serene oasis clad in all-white Calacatta marble, boasts a steam shower for two with unimpeded views, a built-in fireplace and a TV—perfectly balancing luxury with practicality. Integrating these modern, elegant elements created a clean, classic aesthetic that aligned with the homeowners’ vision.

The furnishings take the space to the next level. “Luxe textures like Angora fur rugs, silk velvets and smoked glass filled the room and made the space sexy and romantic,” Wright shares. “The room is quite large, so we used that as an opportunity to make the bed a full wall unit and also added a playfully shaped sofa and paired it with a cocktail table filled with 24K gold leaves,” she adds, noting that the gold leaves glitter in the room’s ample light.

This seven-month project has left the homeowners beaming. “It feels luxurious but approachable,” Wright says. “We were able to edit the space well enough to highlight playful and unexpected elements but still make the room feel sophisticated and have an elegant sensibility overall.
