When The Refined Group (therefinedgroup.com) owner and lead designer Dana Lyon’s longtime friends approached her to reimagine their home at the historic Casa Blanca complex, she knew it had to reflect their vibrant, fashionable style. “They are expats who love to collect art and [are] pied-à-terre collectors,” Lyon shares. “With small residences in the Italian Riviera, Aspen and Baltimore, the couple is now adding the Sonoran Desert to their collection.”

The home required a complete architectural interior refresh, with all walls needing removal and reimagining. Conceptually, “their goal was to have this small gem feel like a resort,” Lyon explains of the homeowners’ vision. “They also wanted to respect and celebrate the desert.” Both contemporary art collectors, the fashion-forward couple also wanted a chic space conducive to entertaining.

“Loft-style living was the inspiration for this home,” says Lyon. “As the designer, our challenge was to reimagine the space and build custom furniture pieces that fit within [it].” She worked with contractor and landscape designer Marty Mietl, who helped transform the space. “We wanted the main space to be as open as possible, adding skylights and large-scale glass doors to allow for indoor and outdoor living and entertaining.”

Lyon implemented a neutral color palette throughout the home to allow her clients’ art to shine, especially in the living room. “This space features large-scale commissioned artwork by Kelly Walker (kellywalkerfineart.com), and a custom-made sectional and an extra-large coffee table—made by The Refined Group—that floats in the space,” she shares.

The designer applied a similar thought process to the kitchen. “The kitchen features a 12-foot contemporary mirror installation making the space seem grand,” says Lyon. “The kitchen is primarily white, allowing for the fantastic cuisine to be the highlight.” Also notable is the primary bedroom, where Lyon and her team used a combination of silvers and gray for a neutral and calming effect, and the primary en suite bathroom that features a marble wet room and vanities made from white delicato marble slabs.

Outside, lush green planters with oranges and grapefruits surround a fire pit, a BBQ and furniture by Harbour Outdoor (shopharbour.com), which thrilled the homeowners when they first saw the entertaining-friendly space. “[We were] able to install start to finish while [they] were away, making it a full fun reveal experience,” Lyon shares. “[They were] elated with the decor and thrilled with the ingenious storage spaces.”
