“I LOVE CREATING HOMES THAT ARE UNIQUE to the clients” notes Chandos Dodson Epley of Chandos Collective, who recently wrapped a midcentury manse in Houston. “The client is from Mexico and wanted (the home) to feel a little more like home but with a Houston aesthetic. Latin American homes tend to be very minimal, so we needed to add a few additional layers to add in a Houston aesthetic.” The 6,500-square-foot space home had been the personal home of lauded builder Richard Condon. Notes Epley: “He had a love for everything Frank Lloyd Wright. The home has a lot of exposed brick and large windows–the overall feel is modern.” Playing into the existing space, Epley worked to weave in a curated selection of custom pieces and artwork that would work harmoniously. Epley, who runs C2 Art–an art advising agency–with partner Mary Hammon Quinn, worked with the client to acquire new pieces to compliment the space. “We sourced pieces from all over the globe and got the client interested in collecting art. We were going for some international flair,” notes Epley. “I wanted the house to be warm without being too layered. We used terra cotta and moss green to highlight the architecture and the sprawling grounds. I wanted furnishings that had a sculptural quality.” The result was a midcentury treasure with a modernized flair.
