Carrier and Company’s rejuvenation of an Upper East Side residence parlayed the space into an elegant yet comfortable abode for a young family.
The breakfast room
Interior design firm Carrier and Company’s latest Upper East Side project is proof that beauty comes from struggle—especially when that struggle unfolds in the form of a global pandemic that halted all construction in New York City in the homestretch of the project’s completion. “This was meant to be a simple and straightforward job with some minor, light cosmetic renovation,” says designer Jesse Carrier. But the project was anything but that. After a few months of delays, and the clients’ temporary relocation to Long Island during that time, Carrier and Company prevailed, and they did so in a spectacular way.

The residence portrays a feminine yet not overly girly aesthetic that makes the perfect backdrop for the homeowners, a mother and her two young daughters, to grow into. “This is a home we designed for a young family who relocated from downtown to be close to schools and the park. A fresh start,” offers Carrier. “It is meant as a serene oasis a stone’s throw from Central Park, an elegant yet kid-friendly space.”
The primary bedroom
Soft, pale colors complemented by a few moments of metal, stone and glass throughout emphasize the elegance Carrier and Company had in mind. The homeowners’ eclectic art collection, including drawings in pink pastel, a Gene Davis lithograph in blue and green, and a three-dimensional white canvas, provided inspiration for the space’s look and fit perfectly with the final design.

The flow of the residence is breezy and exudes a soothing vibe that is unique to the space. A chandelier complete with smoked glass globes hangs above the Scandinavian-style dining table by Restoration Hardware paired with black chairs painted by Finnish Design Shop. The 1950s bar cart designed by Ico Parisi adds a hint of Italian vintage to the space. Head into the living room, and you’ll find an inviting Century Furniture sofa topped with dainty floral pillows by Lee Jofa and a rounded coffee table that offers a drop of modernity, all on top of a cream-colored wool rug by Stark Carpet.
The dining room features a chandelier by Design Within Reach.
Perhaps the most unexpected part of the abode is the laundry room. The once-boring space is now outfitted with vibrant quartz countertops by Lapitec, a handmade tile backsplash in Chiff on and beautiful cabinets brushed with a minty Sherwin-Williams hue that accentuates the jewelrylike crystal cabinetry hardware.
The living room exudes an elegant, relaxed aesthetic.
