Julie Shvedyuk, marketing and trade development manager for the Miami showroom, dishes on trends and the brand’s program for local design partners.

How does the trade program for Miami work?

The California Closets trade program offers preferred pricing to qualified trade partners such as architects, builders, developers and design professionals on custom closets and home organization storage systems. Once someone becomes an approved member, they automatically receive a discount on pricing or earn a commission on the project. It is super simple to become a part of it, and I ensure our partners get the best treatment.

What’s the process in designing a custom solution for clients?

From the beginning, we make sure the client is taken care of. Our team of in-house designers will hold a complimentary consultation whether at home, on the job site or virtually. At the time of consultation, the designer will use our proprietary 3D CAD program to produce renderings of the space, which provides the ability to change finishes and hardware. Then the designer takes a short inventory of the client’s items to ensure nothing is missed. The client will receive plans, pricing and install date, all in one sitting.

What trends are you seeing this year?

During the pandemic, we implemented the virtual design consultation, which has been a huge hit with our clients. Our business has been booming because I think people naturally began to focus on the spaces that they were spending the most time in, such as kitchens, garages, family rooms and, of course, closets. Additionally, we have seen a shift from your typical ‘all white’ furniture layouts to a more modern beach look that you would find in Spain or even in Tulum, so we are always updating our finish and hardware options to reflect new trends.

What inspires you?

Our inspiration and motivation to keep reinventing ourselves relies heavily on the Miami community. Our internal designers have been in the industry for decades and have witnessed the trends in Miami change significantly, so it is only right we continue to change with them.

What differentiates California Closets from other systems?

We use the best of the best materials. Most people do not realize that our products come from all over the world such as Germany, Spain, Italy and Canada. And our lead time is so much faster than our competitors’ because our factory is located right here in Miami Gardens behind our showroom. We produce and install systems according to a higher set of safety guidelines than anyone else. Our CAD program is unrivaled in the industry. But what I think makes us stand out is the fact that we truly care about making a difference in our clients’ lives.
