The Priority

When Atlanta’s premier outdoor living design firm, Outdoor Makeover & Living Spaces (outdoormakeover.net), was approached to transform the backyard of a 1960s Buckhead ranch property, they knew they had to think creatively. The homeowners’ vision was clear: create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces that would encourage family gatherings and year-round entertainment opportunities. “Our clients wanted their outdoor space to feel like a natural extension of their home,” explains CEO Navid Derakhshan. “They dreamed of a space where their family could gather as comfortably outside as they do inside.”

The Challenge

The property presented several architectural hurdles. Low roof lines complicated traditional tie-in solutions, and an existing flagstone patio posed matching difficulties for any expansion plans. The team focused on establishing a fluid connection between the interior and exterior spaces while creating an inviting outdoor kitchen and living area that would harmonize with the existing architecture.

The Strategy

Rather than fighting against the home’s existing architecture, the design team chose to create independent roof structures that complemented the original house. They cleverly incorporated the existing flagstone elements into the new design, allowing budget allocation for luxurious new features. “We focused on creating intimate spaces with carefully selected furniture and heating elements that would encourage year-round use,” notes Derakhshan.

The Detail

The outdoor living space was thoughtfully curated with comfortable, weather-resistant furniture, strategic lighting, and a sophisticated heating system that extends the space’s usability through Atlanta’s cooler months. The outdoor kitchen was equipped with professional-grade appliances and finished with materials that echo the home’s interior design elements.

The Outcome

The transformation speaks volumes through its stunning visual impact. The new outdoor living space seamlessly blends with the home. It has become the family’s favorite gathering spot, and thoughtful lighting has created an enchanting atmosphere even after sunset.
