A lakeside retreat embraces minimalist, clean living.
The home features stunning views of Dudley Pond.
Tucked on the edge of Wayland’s picturesque Dudley Pond awaits a contemporary escape. The six-month project, designed by Joe Bertola of Bertola Custom Homes & Remodeling (bertolacustom.com), Vivian Robbins of Vivian Robbins Design (vivianrobinsdesign.com) and Ernest V. DeMaio III of Tektoniks Architects (tektoniksarchitects.com), boasts 1,350 square feet of sleek, contemporary details along with a stone and wood panel exterior. Upon entering the two-bed, two-and-a-half-bath adobe, visitors are greeted by natural light pouring through floor-to-ceiling windows on the open-concept main floor. “The structure of the home takes advantage of the light, space and outdoor areas by capturing the beauty of living on a lake,” says Bertola, who built the home for himself.
The open-concept design is ideal for entertaining.
Neutral, cozy interiors create the ultimate lakeside getaway with white oak floors, Venetian plaster walls, a floating staircase and a glasspaneled catwalk leading to the second-floor bedrooms. Any chef would feel at home in the modern kitchen, where custom cabinetry, high-end appliances, a waterfall island and more wow. Adjacent, a main living space prioritizes the views, welcoming the homeowners to unwind on chic yet cozy furniture by Room & Board, Arhaus and Roche Bobois. “Our goal was to create a beautiful contemporary home that fully captured the views of the lake,” notes Bertola. “It was important to work with a color palette that embraced all the seasons and would support a black kitchen—warm grays mixed with cool whites.” After the project came to an end, Bertola settled into his dream space. He concludes: “We were beyond thrilled with the finished home. The rich, luxe finishes throughout and the thoughtful storage won us over.”
