As The Chicago Show: Antiques & Art & Modern returns to theMART, renowned designer and honorary event chair Alessandra Branca dishes on what makes the event a must for aficionados of all things beautiful.
One of the most beloved events on the city’s cultural calendar, The Chicago Show makes a triumphant return to theMART this fall after an absence of over three years, and lovers of fine art and antiques are counting down the days. That includes star designer Alessandra Branca, whose design practice has her jet-setting around the world but always brings her back home to Chicago, where she’ll be honorary chair of the event—and collaborating on what’s sure to be an opening night bash like no other with party guru and event Master of Celebrations Bronson van Wyck. Here, Branca gives us the scoop on what we can look forward to—and what’s next for her. Oct. 6-9 (opening night party Oct. 6), 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza
Why is The Chicago Show such an important event?
It’s a tremendous opportunity for people to know, understand and support quality design and art.
What are you most excited about for this year’s show?
I am always looking for wonderful pieces for projects and I look forward to the thrill of finding that perfect piece. I anticipate many exciting finds. I am also thrilled to be collaborating with my friend Bronson van Wyck. Bronson will help me design and co- host The Chicago Show’s opening night party hosted by The Woman’s Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Oct. 6. Just prior to the party, we’ll be offering the opportunity for VIP ticket holders to shop the show early with Bronson and me. The following day we will partner on a lecture and luncheon.

What does it mean to you to be this year’s honorary chair?
The appreciation of the chance to share my knowledge of history of arts and antiques, and to support the important work of The Woman’s Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
You’ve maintained close ties to Chicago even as your practice has taken you around the world—what is it about the city that inspires you?
The incredible architecture of the city and the glorious lakefront!
What can we expect from you in 2023?
More of the same—work! Work! Stay tuned for more from Casa Branca.
