Dallas-based award-winning designer Cheri Etchelecu of Cheri Etchelecu Interior Design (ceid.net) took on the task of transforming a refined but dark mountain home to suit a family that enjoys taking advantage of Vail, Colo.’s green summers and perfect ski season year-round. The closed-in home became a relaxing, livable family space for people who love to entertain.

Etchelecu knew she needed to take advantage of the property’s stunning, sweeping views of both the mountains and nearby creek, so warm, earthy blue, green and copper hues filled the space. Comfortable, multifunctional furniture was covered in textured, high-performance fabrics, and eyecatching custom lighting added high style to the cozy retreat.

But it’s the beautifully rendered outdoor space that caught our eye. “Our goal for this project was to create an indoor-outdoor space with allseason furniture for our clients to enjoy the outdoor living room year-round,” says the designer. “We minimized the use of cushions while still achieving comfortable seating that has covers, so the furniture does not have to be moved inside.”

Etchelecu turned to one of the most luxe purveyors of outdoor furniture, Janus et Cie, for the comfortable sofas, armchairs and fireside rocking chairs and their performance fabrics, while family and friends can sit and enjoy the fresh mountain air around a hearty table from Restoration Hardware. Now, if only they’ll invite us up for the season!
