Marvin Wilkinson

Scottsdale - Founder and owner, John Brooks

What first sparked your interest in interiors or design? I have been environmentally aware since my childhood and sensitive to a space’s layout, look and feel.

How would you describe your aesthetic? The combination of three important elements: comfort, quality and personal touches. [I like mixing] the new, the old and the things I love.

What is a design trend you are loving? We are finally moving away from this visually-fueled social media lifestyle where an image is grabbed and replicated. Designers are creating according to how their clients live.

And a trend you are ready to be over? We are seeing a lot of color from our artisan and designer partners. It is a long overdue push away from the gray trend.

Wallpaper or paint? Wallpaper!

What is your favorite color palette to use in projects currently? All colors. We are seeing color in accents and backgrounds, upholstery, walls, floors, etc. If I have to pick, it would be blue, ochre and rust.

Where do you draw your inspiration? My environment. I make an effort to carve out time every day to observe my surroundings, look around and absorb.

What is a timeless design moment you think will never go out of style? Strong, solid proportions.

What do you wish more of your clients understood? The ups and downs of the design process. It’s important to talk about expectations and create an understanding that good things take time.

Which iconic designer/architect is your idol? There are so many. Christian Liaigre, Rose Tarlow and Michael S. Smith, to name a few.
